چکیده

Tone is an essential component for word formation in all tone languages. Substantial work has been done on using tone information to improve speech recognition of tone languages. In this paper, a new method, called Parallel Tone Score Association (PTSA), for effectively and efficiently using tone in speech recognition is proposed. Experimental results show that the relative character error rates are reduced by as much as 20.94% for Cantonese, and 20.49% for Mandarin compared with the recognition results without tone information. This relative reduction in error rates compares favorably with results reported for other recognition experiments on tone languages.

Detection of mizo tones

Mizo is a tone language of the Kuki-Chin subfamily of the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is a under-studied language and not much resources are available for the language. Moreover, it is a tone language with four different tones, namely, high, low, falling and rising. While designing a speech recognition system it becomes imperative that tonal variations are taken into consideration. Hence,...

A Pitch Smoothing Method for Mandarin Tone Recognition

Mandarin Chinese is known as a tonal language with four lexical tones. Tone recognition plays an important role in automatic Chinese speech recognition in that the same syllable with different tones gives quite distinct meanings. The different tone can be characterized by its pitch contour, but the pitch contours are hardly ideal smooth curves. It is because the pitch points calculated by pitch...

Importance of tonal envelope cues in Chinese speech recognition.

Recent studies have shown that temporal waveform envelope cues can provide significant information for English speech recognition. This study investigated the use of temporal envelope cues in a tonal language: Mandarin Chinese. In this study, the speech was divided into several frequency analysis bands; the amplitude envelope was extracted from each band by half-wave rectification and low-pass ...

Unsupervised Learning of Tone and Pitch Accent

Recognition of tone and intonation is essential for speech recognition and language understanding. However, most approaches to this recognition task have relied upon extensive collections of manually tagged data obtained at substantial time and financial cost. In this paper, we explore unsupervised clustering approaches to recognize pitch accent in English and tones in Mandarin Chinese. In unsu...

Tone Recognition of Continuous Thai Speech Under Tonal Assimilation and Declination Effects Using Half-Tone Model

This paper presents a method for continuous Thai tone recognition. One of the main problems in tone recognition is that several interacting factors affect F0 realization of tones. In this paper, we focus on the tonal assimilation and declination effects. These effects are compensated by the tone information of neighboring syllables, the F0 downdrift and the context-dependent tone model. However...
